Summary of the War in Ukraine
Here’s my simplified summary of the war in Ukraine so far:
Between 2022-2025, more than a million Ukrainians were killed, several hundred thousand Ukrainians were wounded, 40 percent of all Ukrainian rare-earth minerals ended up in the hands of Russia, and Ukraine sank deep into debt to the European Union.
To prevent this from happening, the strategy of NATO leaders Biden, Johnson, Sunak, Starmer, Macron, Scholz, Støre and Kristersson was to ship more and more weapons to Ukraine and completely neglect diplomacy. Their strategy failed, but they never changed course or repented from their sins. NATO leaders continued doubling down on a strategy that led to more and more Ukrainians dying and being maimed, more and more Ukrainian minerals ending up in the hands of Russia, and Ukraine sinking more and more into debt to the EU.
Then, Donald Trump is inaugurated as president, and in one month only he’s ready with a peace plan for Ukraine. His peace plan is centered on Ukrainian minerals. The United States and Ukraine will enter into a partnership whereby the US will invest and build facilities and send workers to extract minerals in eastern Ukraine. The presence of US facilities and US workers will be the security guarantee that halts the Russian advance and prevents another Russian attack in the future. The fact that profits from the minerals will be split 50-50 between American and Ukraine will enable Ukraine to start paying back their loans to the EU.
President Zelensky’s job is simply to fly to Washington, sign the agreement, eat lunch, and go home to his country which will now enjoy peace.
Instead, while Vice President Vance answers a reporters questions about diplomacy, Zelensky interjects and starts lecturing first Vance, and then Trump, in Trump’s home in Washington, in front of the entire world.
Trump throws Zelensky out of the White House, and now suddenly, lots of Europeans are angry with Trump, not with Zelensky, who botched a very simple job, or the other NATO leaders, that failed to bring forth any peace plan at all during the past three years.
Europe has gone mad.
